Note: It is very important not to put incompatible inks into these cartridges, since incompatible inks will cause a chemical reaction with the ink residue remaining from the previous fill of the cartridge. This will cause damage to the cartridge and the printer. Do NOT use any inks other than the ones listed below, which have been specially tested for use in the cartridges.
We have three sets of ink for this printer.
Dye-based Economy inks -- to save money
Special Pigmented inks -- for archival photo applications
Low-cost Pigmented inks -- for outdoor signage and posters
Standard Dye-based Economy Inks - for normal usage
We have a set of low-cost dye-based inks. These inks use our standard dye-based
pricing.
This dye-based ink set is much less water-resistant than pigmented inks.
In addition, these inks will fade noticeably faster than the original pigmented inks.
Use these inks if you do normal home or office printing or want to save money.
The original R800 cartridge comes with a pigmented ink set which is relatively water-resistant and slow to fade. This ink set matches the original inks to close tolerances. Use these inks only if you truly need superior water-resistance and fade-resistance, or need finished artistic prints. These inks will work on semi-gloss and some gloss media. Please check our opinion of Epson's Pigmented inks. Our equivalent pigmented inks are as follows:

Low Cost Pigmented Inks - for absorbent matte-finish media
These inks were originally developed to provide a low-cost pigmented ink set which is relatively water-resistant and slow to fade. Use these inks only if you truly need water-resistance and fade-resistance. They were designed for sun-exposed signage, disposable advertising posters, and paper-based labels. These inks will not work on semi-gloss and gloss media such as photo paper. Color reproduction is acceptable for the application, but is not up to most photo standards. Color will not match the original Epson inks. Please check our opinion of Epson's Pigmented inks. Our low-cost pigmented inks are as follows:
