Canon BC-22 Cartridge

Many different Canon 4200/4550 Series Photo Printers
Also is used in certain Apple printers.
Theory
The ink in this cartridge is retained because the cartridge has an internal
sponge.
Instructions
Step 1) Put the cartridge on some paper towels in an area where you
can tolerate a spill.
Step 2) For the BC-22 Cartridge, locate the 4 fill hole plugs on top of
the cartridge.
Step 3) Use a 1/16 inch or #55 drill to drill holes in the
fill plugs on top of the cartridge. Alternatively, you may pop the plugs
out of the top.
Step 4) Using a toothpick or the end of an empty syringe needle, insert
into each hole to determine the correct color for each chamber (Black,
Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow). Make a diagram so you'll remember.
Step 5) Tape over three of the four holes with a sealing tape. This is
to prevent accidental contamination of a chamber with the wrong ink if
you overfill a chamber.
Step 6) Inject the Black chamber with about 8 ml of ink (about 1/4
of a syringe bottle.)
Inject S-L-O-W-L-Y to fill the entire chamber. Be sure
to remove and re-insert the needle a few times to expose the entire sponge
to the ink.Inject deeply.
Step 7) Repeat steps 5 and 6 with the other three colors. NOTE: you will
only need to put about 4 ml of ink in each of the color chambers.
Step 8) You only need cover the hole with a piece of electrical tape for
extended storage or transportation to prevent leaking or drying out. Remove
the tape when printing.
Step 5) Set on a paper towel for an hour as a drip precaution. Expect a few
drips -- If there aren't any drips, the sponge is not saturated and ready
to print. Cover all holes during storage to prevent leaks and evaporation.
To Clean the Printhead
Do not clean the printhead unless you get poor print quality.
Follow the directions in the printer manual.
Run the printhead cleaning software.
To Clean Your Sink
The ink is water-soluble. Use plenty of soap and warm water. You may also
need to use Comet or a similar cleaner if the stains persist.
To Clean Your Hands
On hands, the best substance to use is
Ink Be GoneTM, a
specially developed hand cleaner available from ACSI Bulk Inks.
