Theory
The ink in this cartridge is retained because the cartridge has an internal
sponge. Most of the cartridge is simply a large sponge.
It is important to avoid air bubbles from remaining in the lower sponge, so
we suggest that you insert the syringe needle through the hole and
fill the sponge slowly from many different angles.
This cartridge has a printhead -- be careful when handling the copper area.
Instructions
Step 1) Put the cartridge on some paper towels in an area where you
can tolerate a spill.
Step 2) Hold the cartridge so that the "Made by Xerox"...is facing you and
the square side of the cartridge is down, with the triangle-like point up.
Step 3) The right side of the cartridge can be removed by gently slipping
a flat blade screwdrive or knife between it and the rest of the cartridge.
Step 4) Locate the hole in the center of the right side of the cartridge.
Step 5) Slowly inject about 35 ml (our syringe bottles hold 30 ml) of black
WJ114 or (preferably) WJ118 ink deeply into the cartridge through the center side hole. Be sure to
angle down into the sponge and change your injection angle to be sure to
get ink into all parts of the sponge. Do not use WJ1014 ink in this
cartridge!
Step 6) Tape the side panel back onto the cartridge. There is no need to
seal the hole.
Step 7) Set on a paper towel for 5 minutes as a drip precaution. Expect a few
drips, but excess leaking means that the cartridge has been over-filled. Let
the excess leak out.
Cover all holes during longterm storage to prevent leaks and evaporation.
To Clean the Printhead
Clean the printhead only if the cartridge doesn't print or prints in
streaks.
- Follow the directions in the printer manual.
- If that doesn't work, here's a quick and easy method to try next:
- Turn on the hot water faucet and let the water get good and hot.
- Stick just the copper printhead under the hot water for 3 to 5 seconds.
- Remove the printhead and dry with a tissue.
- Re-insert in the printer and run the printhead cleaning routine.
- Print 2 pages. You should get dilute print for a half page or so and
then good quality printing.
- If this doesn't work, soak only the printhead in simmering water for
up to 2 hours. You may add up to 50 percent ammonia for tough clogs.
To Clean Your Sink
The ink is water-soluble. Use plenty of soap and warm water. You may also
need to use Comet or a similar cleaner if the stains persist.
To Clean Your Hands
On hands, the best substance to use is
Ink Be GoneTM, a
specially developed hand cleaner available from ACSI Bulk Inks.
