Introduction

How to get the most out of this book.

As you read this book, you will find references to the Bible. Some are quoted fully. Others are not. You will learn much more about the Evangelical Christian mind if you keep a Bible handy to look up the references and read them, especially the Suggested Scripture Readings at the end of each chapter.

In addition, there are a series of Discussion Questions that are designed to focus your thoughts upon a particular area. Keep a pencil with you and fill in your answers to the questions. The act of writing the answer will stimulate a burst of understanding in most cases. (Sometimes the lecture just can’t take the place of a few minutes of quiet thought.) If you are reading this book in a small group, the group should discuss most of these questions.

Finally, at the end of most chapters are a series of suggested Actions. Some of the actions are to watch a movie – others are to do something that is normally outside your comfort zone. This is the laboratory section of the course. Get out and do! It’s the only way to really grow.
